Grand Canyon float 2005
Page 1 of 3. « Previous | [1] 2 3 | Next » In early May 2005 I was fortunate enough to get invited on another Grand Canyon private rafting trip. Many of the same folks from the 2001 Grand Canyon trip were on this trip, including my aunt and uncle and cousins. This time, however, I just did the second half of the trip. I hiked from the rim down to Phantom Ranch (halfway down the river) and met the rest of the group on the river. Since party size is capped at 16, one person from the party hiked out while I hiked in. I handed off the car rental keys to her, and she drove off to the airport while I got on a raft and floated the next 9 days. The air temperature was quite a bit cooler than in the middle of summer, which meant the cold water temperature kept us out of the river most of the time, and led to us wearing full rain gear during the big rapids.
