Nova Scotia 2004
At the end of July I flew out to Nova Scotia. Margaret grew up there, and was at home this summer doing an internship for the city of Antigonish. I have family history in Halifax and have always wanted to see that part of North America, so it worked out well. We hung out in Halifax for a weekend, saw a concert at the Citadel amphitheater, saw the Tall Ships, and found Cogswell street and tower (my grandmother's maiden name). Then we spent the work week in Antigonish, the university town where she grew up, near Cape Breton. I had shipped our bikes out from Seattle because we planned on riding the Cabot Trail (300 km loop on the east coast of the province) and unfortunately there were some customs/border issues that had to be resolved over the phone, which took up some of my tourist time. But it got straightened out and the next weekend we rode the Cabot Trail, which proved to be gorgeous. It's a hilly road that more or less hugs the coast of the province, similar in some ways to the Oregon or California coastal roads. There are a couple sections with really steep hills, but the rest of the ride was more manageable. Definitely a classic, beautiful, highly recommended road ride. | |
